CLASSIFIED: Full-Time, Exempt
LOCATION: Yankton, SD
BONUS: $3,000 Sign-On bonus paid in two installments

JOB SUMMARY: The Traditional Club Director provides leadership and oversight for the daily operations, staff, and programs serving youth in grades 1–12 at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains' Yankton Traditional Club. This position is responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging Club environment while ensuring high-quality youth development programming and exceptional member experiences. The Director leads and develops staff, builds positive relationships with families, schools, and community partners, and oversees program quality, operational excellence, and compliance with organizational policies and procedures. As the leader of the Traditional Club, this position fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement that supports the Club's mission and strategic goals.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the Traditional Club serving youth in grades 1–12, including all elementary and teen programming, daily operations, and member services.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate high-quality youth development programs aligned with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Five Key Elements and priority outcome areas: Academic Success, Good Character & Leadership, Healthy Lifestyles, and Life & Workforce Readiness.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive Club environment by maintaining compliance with organizational policies, licensing requirements, safety standards, staffing ratios, and operational procedures. Lead, supervise, coach, and evaluate full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff, volunteers, and interns while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop staff schedules and ensure appropriate coverage to support daily operations, school breaks, no-school days, snow days, and other operational needs.
  • Monitor program quality, member participation, and youth outcomes using data, observations, and feedback to continuously improve services and respond to member needs.
  • Oversee data collection, reporting, and documentation, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with organizational and funding requirements.
  • Support positive youth development by implementing behavior management strategies, developing Youth Success Plans when appropriate, and responding to member and family concerns with professionalism and care.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with members, families, schools, and community partners to strengthen communication, collaboration, and support for youth.
  • Partner with the Membership Coordinator and Marketing Department to support member recruitment, enrollment, retention, and family engagement initiatives.
  • Lead parent and caregiver communication through orientations, meetings, phone calls, emails, and other family engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership and other Club locations to ensure consistency in programming, operations, staff development, and member experience across the organization.
  • Attend and actively participate in required meetings, trainings, professional development opportunities, and organizational initiatives.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities, reports, documentation, and special projects accurately and within established timelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, social work, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience working with youth ages 6–18 in a leadership or program management role.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with program or data management software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to think critically, solve problems efficiently, make sound decisions quickly, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, mentoring, and developing positive relationships with youth, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and commitment to the mission, values, and youth development philosophy of the Boys & Girls Club.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on the operational needs of the Club. Club operating hours are generally 7:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. during the summer and on no-school days, and after school until 7:00 p.m. during the school year. A limited number of weeknight hours may be required throughout the year for family engagement, recruitment, promotional events, or meetings. Weekend work is rare and generally limited to special events or organizational activities.
  • Ability to understand, implement, and model youth behavior management practices consistent with Club values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunity, and safety.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to observe, interact, and communicate effectively with youth, staff, and families.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (computer, copier, phone, etc.).
  • This position is considered safety-sensitive.
