TITLE: Lead Cook
REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager
CLASSIFIED: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing the kitchen and café including food orders, food preparation, cooking, serving, and ensuring cleanliness post meal and ongoing. Responsible for ensuring the kitchen meets licensing and health requirements.
JOB DUTIES:
- Responsible for unloading pallets and food orders.
- Must complete Food Safe training and ensure kitchen is up to standard.
- Responsible for keeping the kitchen and café clean and sanitized.
- Assist with program development for Café and creating nutritional menus.
- Will assist as needed with all special events at the Club.
- Lead the implementation and successful completion of grants programs as assigned.
- Assist in the Yankton Club primarily, but also in Vermillion as needed.
- Possible transport of Food from Yankton Club to Vermillion
- Possible assistance with food service in Vermillion while Yankton Club kitchen is under renovation - flexibility needed during this time
- Be prepared to assist cooking in Vermillion, as needed
- Attending 100% of monthly all staff meetings, weekly one on one meeting with supervisor and weekly team meetings, as well as ensuring the entire team is receiving and attending their meetings.
- Experience working with youth of ages Preschool through 12th Grade preferred.
- Experience working in commercial kitchen.
- Experience working in food service.
- Management/Supervisory Experience preferred.
- Must be able to understand, implement, and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
- Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, parents etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals.
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift.
- Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds in order to unload and stock food orders.
- This position is considered to be safety-sensitive.
