Power Up Classroom Assistant
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator
CLASSIFIED: Non-Exempt, Seasonal (7/6/2026-8/7/2026)
LOCATION: Brookings

MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens
JOB SUMMARY: The Power Up Classroom Assistant is responsible for implementing the 5 key elements of positive youth development: fun, safety, recognition, opportunities & expectations and supportive relationships in their daily interactions with youth. The Power Up Classroom Assistant is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club. The Club values include teamwork, impact driven, excellence & good character.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assist with attendance procedures
- Serve as substitute teacher in classroom if/when regular teacher is unavailable.
- Assist Power Up teachers in classes that have above average student numbers.
- Serve as mentor for high needs youth in classroom when required.
- Assist Power Up teachers in implementing lesson plans that incorporate enrichment through hands on activities.
- Assist in supervising bussing and transportation when needed.
- Assist in transporting supplies, snack, etc. to the Power Up site when needed.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with youth in Kindergarten through 5th grade
- Ability to work during the summer from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm, Monday - Thursday
- Must be able to understand, implement, and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, parents etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift
- Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
- This position is considered to be safety-sensitive.
